Remembering the Unhoused at Thanksgiving
At Thanksgiving, we often take for granted our blessings of abundance of food, freedom, and our family and health. We occasionally neglect to include the security of a safe place to call home.
During our Thanksgiving Share Our Substance lunch, Eseralda Virales from Destination Home, a Santa County agency focusing on our unhoused neighbors, addressed many key issues with the congregation. Simply put, the "inconvenient truth" is that thousands live in camps with only vinyl tarps as their shelter in the shadows of billion-dollar apartments.
We are challenged to provide more than meals and financial support, but to promote `greater sensitivity and political involvement. Solutions will not come quickly or completely, but commitment is the crucial first step.
Compassion Ministry and Missions Commitee would like to thank everyone who brought a dish to share, everyone who supported Wesley's outreach, and most importantly, everyone who heeds Jesus' promise to "give freely because you have received freely".
