Trunk N Treats Outreach had some 600 children in out 5th St. Parking Lot on Halloween, Oct. 31 in our annual car-trunk give-away and neighborhood outreach program.   We served as a part of the Japantown Halloween Safety Night sponsored by San Jose Taiko.

We had 10 cars participating representing various church ministry groups:  Nichigo with Mimune and Mieko Tsukamoto, Hikaru Bakoshi, Mayumi and Takumi Ogawa; Missions with John Tanaka, Andrea, Doris Tabuchi and Judy Yasutake; Children and Family Ministries with Hatty Lin and one of her children; Hands of Grace, Yumi and Wayne Haraguchi; Primetimers, Warren and Jane Hayashi; and United Women of Faith, Terri Koike, Cynthia Fukuda and Bobbie Ueunten; Compassion Ministry, Mark Teagle and Barbara Hiura; our Congregation, Roy and Hannah Takeuchi; Choir, Bev and Hector Acuna and Don Saito and Pastoral Staff, Rev. John Oda.

Jeffrey Odham and Kelvin Kamachi were part of Japantown Prepared served as our safety patrollers and ensured children crossed the streets safely.

The congregation came through with donations of treats for the children along with Children and Family Ministries contributing to the purchase of small toys. Kelli Martines and Hikaru Bakoshi helped sponsor this ministry and offered support such as additional signage for our car ministries, food for the volunteers along with help in setting up.  Also there was Byran Longmire, Trent Ueunten and Mark Teagle supplying extension chords for electricity for the cars. Barbara Hiura was the Trunk N Treats overall coordinator.

This is an important outreach ministry for our church in making our presence known in the Japantown community and being an integral part of the infrastructure of this neighborhood.
