Artificial Intelligence....AI...Is Here

Around 42 Primetimers attended this discussion on July 31 in the Chapel, on AI the new tech sweeping the country. Should we be afraid?

After viewing a 60 Minutes segment on "The Godfather of AI Geoffrey Hinton", Roy Takeuchi talked about being impressed with what AI can do through an AI program called ChatGPT4 and through the massive amounts of data inputted, with just a few prompts can create and cogent well written essay say on our church in 50 years in a matter of minutes. That was impressive. That would put this journalist out of a job in a quick minute...but wait...it does have flaws, so not to worry, yet.

Jeffrey Oldham (above) and Brian Taba (below), illustrated current issues with AI as they pointed to positive aspects of a huge model of high capacity intelligence that can respond logically and with fewer flaws than us, but no worries on yet on it taking over us or the world on its own. Jeffrey and Brian have both worked and are working in this world of AI, and believe that like anything new throughout the ages has been met with fear but in the long run has improved our lives immensely. Jeffrey sees this as perhaps growing our youth with different skill sets.
