Wesley UMC San Jose Breaks Ground on New Garden

San Jose, California– May 30, 2024 – Wesley UMC in San Jose held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new church garden. The new garden has been designed as a place for reflection, prayer and community gatherings. The ceremony, held on a bright sunny morning, marked a significant step in the church’s ongoing commitment to fostering spiritual growth and well-being for not just the church but the community as well.
The event began with a heartfelt welcome from the chair of the Garden Project, Rob Hikido.  Mr. Hikido shared brief history of the project as well as the vision behind the garden.  District Superintendent Rev. Samuel Hong was also present as was Rev. John Oda, the Senior Pastor of Wesley.  Rev. Oda remarked that, “This garden will be more than just a beautiful space, we hope it will be a sanctuary for the soul, a space for healing and restoration, a place where everyone will have an opportunity to connect with God, nature, and one another; today and for the generations to come.”
There is an excitement for future Wesley Church Garden events, including meditation sessions, outdoor services, weddings and seasonal festivals.  DS Rev. Samuel Hong said that “this groundbreaking ceremony symbolized not just the breaking of the soil but also the sowing of seeds of faith, hope, and community.”
