Wesley UWF Rummage Sale 2026

Wesley UWF Rummage Sale 2026 by Mary Horio
1 Peter 4:10 NIV —Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Purpose:
*Outreach and service to our surrounding church community.
*Fellowship with our WUMC congregation and community.
*Funds to support missions for women, children and youth.
June 2 - 8, 2026: These are extraordinary days!
WUMC congregation and Japantown community organizations answered the call to service as they jumped in with hearts and minds of one accord: Service & Fellowship! Thank you to each and everyone that was able to participate in our 2026 annual Rummage Sale!!!
[Yes, all three exclamation points are intentional!]
Throughout these many busy, busy days, there were friendly smiles and cheerful conversations as items were received, sorted, cleaned, priced, packaged and sold. Followed by the post-event chores of trash removal, furniture replacement, repacking of supplies and reports.
*Rummage Sale co-chairs: Yay! Terri Koike. Yay! Beverly Acuna. Yay! Jeanne Katsuro. These co-chairs had no time for their usual daily routines as they were consumed with on-going planning,  replanning and countless adjustments! Days prior, event day and days following they led us to meet our goals and kept us all on track to reach our finish line.
* Scout Troop 201: “Do a Good Turn Daily” [slogan]. The scouts arrived to help where needed and needed they were! Heavy tables and objects were set up and later moved outside. When asked for help, the Scouts were ready and willing to assist.
* Japantown community groups: Throughout the Rummage Sale, our Japantown community groups joined in and found many ways to contribute to our Rummage Sale. Volunteers were also there to help pack up and load remaining items onto the HOPE truck.
* Nichi Bei Bussan: Annually they support our Rummage Sale by selecting special items to be sold on consignment. Throughout the year UWF receives funds for items sold.
* Kitchen volunteers: These volunteers made full use of the kitchen as lunches were prepared and readied for the workers as well as on-going clean up! There was menu planning, purchasing, actual food preparation and serving. Tasty delicious lunches provided volunteers with that extra boost of energy while they took a bit of time to sit and relax.
* Treasures volunteers: This group only operated in full speed mode all with an extra dose of patience for the seemingly never ending line of expectant happy shoppers. All participants were in the service-mode that required a good amount of flexibility amid that ever present ‘hurry up’ pressure.
* Our financial deputies, cashiers and itemizers: These volunteers met each shopper with smiles, warm greetings and hearty, sincere Thank You’s. We are indebted to them for their courtesy, accuracy and accounting knowledge. Early estimated net profit: $15,000.
How, oh how did all of this huge volume, with so many volunteers, so many different parts, that all touch so many lives ever come together with service and fellowship in such a meaningful way?
Praising our loving God and raising a Hallelujah for the Holy Spirit working with and through each volunteer. Indeed, great is our God!
