Day of Remembrance Makizushi

Nihonmachi Outreach Committee held their 46th Annual Program (Neighbors Not Enemies) on Feb. 15, at the Buddhist Church Betsuin.  Rev. Oda was one of the speakers.

Day of Remeambrance Committee asked Wesley United Methodist Church if the church could donate 38 rolls of makizushi to offset the cost of holding the program.  They sell the makizushi along with the age sushi that the Buddhist Church donated on a plate and sell it to the attendees.  

At Wesley many hands go into making  the makizushi: Akiko Buchanan, Michiko Collins, Kazuko Hughes, Clarissa Johnston-Abril, Doris Tabuchi chopped the vegetables on Saturday, and Akiko cooked and flavored the vegetables and Misako Ogi prepared the eggs. On Sunday, Ed Gibo with instructions from Ron Ogi cooked and cooled the rice.  On Sunday, Akiko Buchanan, Kazuko Hughes, Mieko Tsukamoto, Mayumi Miyakawa, Carl Morimoto rolled the sushi, Misako Ogi, Ed Gibo, John Tanaka, and Doris Tabuchi helped with the other necessary things to be done.  Ed and Doris delivered the 38 makizushi to Sharon Hirozawa, one of the members of DOR.  They were thankful and sent a "thank you" letter which the office.
