Strategic Planning Discovery & Discernment Session

Wesley’s first Strategic Planning session was held on November 15th in the Chapel.  Wesley has never had an outside consultant lead the church in this process, however 40 years ago, Rev. Peter Chen lead the church through a strategic planning process. Our consultant, Rev. Sam Yun, (who was recommended to us by our District Superintendent Rev. Samuel Hong) will lead us in three sessions with a cross-section of our congregation. The fourth and final session will be our Winter Retreat in February 2026.
We are using a cross section of the congregation so we can be agile enough to get the work done.  They include younger and older folks, people who’ve been here just a few months and people who’ve been here for decades, from both Nichigo and the English-speaking side, parents, single people, grandparents and everything in between.  This cross section of people will help us “hit pause” long enough to listen - listen to God, listen to and hear each other’s perspectives; and with the help of our consultant, we will discern where God is leading the church.
Why have is a strategic plan? A strategic plan will help the church see clearly where it is, where God is calling us to go, and how we’re going to move in that direction. Think of it like an old-fashioned road map.  A map will show you where you are and then figure out which route we want to take to get to your destination.  Wesley’s Strategic Plan will build clarity and focus and helps the church serve with more purpose and impact.
