Keiro Kai Honors J-Town Community Elders
"Okage sama de" translates to "Because of you, I am," and this was embraced as the theme of our 2025 Community Keiro Kai, an event celebrating seniors ages 75 and older. Wesley joined other Japantown organizations, Yu-Ai Kai, SJ Buddhist Church Betsuin, Nikkei Matsuri Foundation, and SJ Japantown Lions Club, as a sponsor. Our staff was well represented, as Rev. John spoke for Wesley, Kelli Martines represented Nikkei Matsuri Foundation and co-chaired the event, Mark Teagle participated with the Wesley Jazz Ensemble, and Hikaru Bakoshi helped to photograph the evening. Wayne Adachi led the WJE through two toe-tapping sets, including a fun version of "When The Saints Go Marching In," inviting guests to get out of their seats and march around the gym! We are so grateful to all who paved the path and created so many opportunities for future generations, Okage same de.
