My Reflection on the 177th California-Nevada UMC Annual Conference

The New Vision for the Church ;
The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ, who empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.

Last month, I had the honor of attending the 177th California-Nevada Annual Conference with Warren Hayashi, Rev. John, and Aton Abril, our district lay leader. Through this experience, we gained a broader understanding of what is happening in the United Methodist Church at the Conference level—beyond the scope of our own local church.
I learned that the current focus of the California-Nevada Conference (one of several in the Western Jurisdiction) includes:


I was especially moved by the Spirit-filled joy of the young people at the conference and their strong desire to be included in the leadership of the Church. I also learned more about the important advocacy and peace efforts  of the Native American ministry, as well as work being done in areas such as climate justice, racial justice, immigrant rights, and justice for Palestine.

Most personally, I was reminded again and again that we, as a Church, are called to return to the mission of Jesus Christ—the heart of our Methodist identity. That mission is to ensure that all people know they are worthy of God's love, have their basic physical needs met, and are supported in their journey toward wholeness and holiness in Christ. Each of us is a missionary in our daily lives, called to join in God's work at home, in our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

This is why we must ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit and show us how to follow Jesus
more faithfully.

Each year I feel honored to attend the Annual Conference and always come away inspired and encouraged. Thank you for the opportunity.

第177回カリフォルニア・ネバダ合同メソジスト教会年次総会を振り返って
教会の新たなビジョン
合同メソジスト教会は、イエス・キリストの弟子を育成します。
聖霊によって力づけられた弟子たちは、
大胆に愛し、喜びをもって仕え、
地域社会および世界とのつながりの中で
勇気をもって導いていきます。

先月、私はウォーレン・ハヤシさん、ジョン牧師、そして地区信徒リーダーのエイトン・エイブリルさんと共に、第177回カリフォルニア・ネバダ年次総会に参加する光栄にあずかりました。この経験を通して、自分たちの教会の枠を越え、合同メソジスト教会（カンファレンスレベル）で何が起きているのか、より広い視野で理解することができました。
カリフォルニア・ネバダ会議（西部教区の一つ）では現在、以下のことに重点を置いています。
私は、会議に参加していた若者たちの聖霊に満ちた喜びと、教会のリーダーシップに関わりたいという強い思いに、特に心を打たれました。また、ネイティブアメリカンの方々や移民の権利についての擁護や平和の働きについて、そして環境問題、人種差別、パレスチナのための正義といった分野での取り組みについても、多くを学びました。
そして私個人としては何よりも、私たち教会はイエス・キリストの使命、すなわちメソジストとしてのアイデンティティの中心に立ち返るように繰り返し呼びかけられていることを思い出させられました。その使命とは、すべての人が神の愛にふさわしい存在であると知り、必要な物質的支援を受け、キリストにあって一人ひとりが完全に満たされ聖くされる過程でサポートされることです。

私たちそれぞれが、日常生活の中で神の働きに参与する宣教師であり、家庭、学校、職場、そして地域社会の中でその使命に生きるように召されています。

だからこそ、私たちは神に聖霊で満たしていただき、より忠実にイエスに従う道を示していただけるよう祈り求めなければなりません。

私は毎年、この年次総会に参加できることを光栄に思っており、いつも大きな励ましと希望をいただいて帰ってきます。このような機会を与えてくださり、心から感謝いたします。
